Decay or Dissolution?

Half of the people who have seen this piece
Say that this person is ill.
Half of the people who have seen this piece
Say that this person is evolving.

Which is true?

Both, I think.
When the person we know ourselves to be
No longer fits
The stage of growth that we’ve attained,
We shed those parts that we’ve outgrown.
We appear awkward, ill, raw for awhile.

Then the new skin grows in,
Able to stretch to new stages
Including and surpassing where we’ve been.

In the ancient science of Alchemy,
Used as metaphor for psychological growth by C G Jung,
This stage was called Dissolution,
An early stage to becoming Whole.
