When i think of the trauma survivors
That I’ve worked with in therapy
For almost thirty years,
These are the qualities i think of.
Not when they begin their healing,
But afterward.
They return to who they were meant to be,
Mostly.
But also with a patina.
Not the patina of age,
But a patina of dismay.
